S&M "The Way Out West" Ride |

The inaugural ride of the Valley
Vespastics got off to a wet, slow start, but a ride nonetheless. As the
Vespa of California Holiday sale began Sunday morning, clouds rolled in and
the sky opened up. Half a dozen dedicated scooterists, and even a clown,
took vigil in the Sherman Oaks boutique with hot chocolate, pizza, cookies,
and cupcakes to the sounds of holiday music, while pouring rain kept the
streets empty.
The scheduled mid-day departure came
and went and the outlook was grim. But just as the day came to a close, the
clouds . . . .

Wow what a ride indeed. Thank you to each and everyone who made it out on this
great, fun, and sometimes scary ride! It was a long ride with beautiful scenery,
cold mountain air, warm sunshine, twisty but clean roads and thankfully no one
died!
Most of us met at the store (thank you for making
an effort to get there on time). We met up with Michael and his wife at the
Chevron station on Sunset Blvd. And after gassing up we headed off to Topanga.
PCH traffic was not too bad. No one lane split and we all took it easy up to
Topanga Blvd. . . . .

March 27th, 2004. Another great
ride. We had about 18 riders at this very long but very fast ride through the
mountains. The day was absolutely beautiful with temperatures tailor made for a
swarm of Vespa riders. The riders gathered at the Sherman Oaks Vespa store and
rode to the Santa Monica Vespa store led by Brian Kinney. Sam (Director of
Operations for Vespa of California) brought coffee, pastries, juice and more to
the event. It was quite exciting to see all the Vespas lined up ready to rock!
Keith Klein and his daughter rode a GT200! . . . .

June
19th, 2004. Another great ride. I had originally hoped for more riders to
show up but, turned out to be ideal with just four of us. Mae, Gretchen, Robert
and myself. We met up at the store and as we prepared for the ride Katie (my
recently hired salesperson) showed up to open the store. It was neat to see her
before we headed off.
Of course, as usual, we got off to a late start.
LOL. I was secretly worried about the overcast skies and had hope for a sunny
afternoon. Never quite got my wish. PCH to the Cheveron on Sunset for a sip of
petrol and tire air. We were all a bit on the low side. Should have held a
contest for the . . . .

It's noon and our band of merry riders
assemble for this epic journey taking us far, far away from the familiar, and
comforting images and sounds (and even smells) of Santa Monica. But, ...........
what are we really heading towards? Do we really know what is out there on that
lonely stretch of highway? What sorts of danger, intrigue, and evil . Er, ah, ..... hmm, oops.
Sorry, wrong story . . . .

Well, it was a real blast folks. A couple of diehard club members made it
out with me and it was worth it. Linda and Eric both made it a really fun
ride. We started out from the store at around 6pm and headed straight for
the Chevron station at Sunset and PCH. The traffic was light and the temp
was nice and cool. Not cold, just right. Now, Linda was on her black GT200.
A beautiful bike by any description. And she keeps it showroom clean. The
thing is. . . she's got a secret!
