Endless Summer Rally 04 in Beautiful Santa Barbara

Friday, September 24th, 2004.  It's noon and our band of merry riders assemble for this epic journey taking us far, far away from the familiar, and comforting images and sounds (and even smells) of Santa Monica. But, ........... what are we really heading towards? Do we really know what is out there on that lonely stretch of highway? What sorts of danger, intrigue, and evil . Er, ah, ..... hmm, oops. Sorry, wrong story.

It's noon and our band of merry riders assemble for this epic journey. Linda K., Tank Top, Dr. Kim, "Dave", Brian, and Aaron too show up and we all say our hi's and hello's one or two cups of espresso and a RedVine to go. And so began our journey up the Pacific Coast Highway. The S&M Scooter Club and the Vespastics - stopping first at the Sunset/PCH gas stop. So far - uneventful. So far.

Onwards to Oxnard - destination Casa de Soria where we are to meet up with NoHo scooters Mike Frankovich and his riders. I really liked that place. Fast service and good Mexican food for very little cash. My kind of eatery! We actually got there early even though I spaced out and stopped the group at one point thinking we were going to eat lunch at Neptune's Net! Anyway, we made it, had lunch with Frankovich and headed up the street for gas.

Now, this is where it got velly interesting . . . .

As we take off from the gas station and we get about a mile further I do a head count and notice Linda is no where to be found. I look back and see the chase truck . . . . but no Linda. Shit. Is she hurt? Is she stuck? So, I go back to the station only to catch a glimpse of her blasting onto the freeway onramp. No way could I catch up with her GT200 so I get off on the next off ramp. Now, I'd imagine the obvious thing to do is go back find my group, report in, call her cell phone and continue on. But damn it. The group is gone too and I don't know the route. Shit, I'll head on up by myself and try to find Motoparadiso somehow.

Scooting along the highway what do I see off to the side road? It's THEM. Yahoo! I can't believe it. I take the off ramp and slide right into the middle of the pack like a salami between rye. Whew. Relieved to see Linda and the rest of the group I am more than happy. Onwards to Bobby's place (Motopardiso). Arriving at your destination is such sweet music.

Here I am polishing my scoot. Bobby (our host) with TankTop. And a couple of scootin' ladies being interviewed.

Every day a new ride, a new destination, a new route - it was heaven. On Saturday, the count was up to 154 scooters! Sunday's ride up to Cold Spring Tavern we had 64 scooters making the twisty (and bumpy) route. The roads were very much like the roads in the Santa Monica Mountains which surprised me. There was even a cruise on the "Land Shark" amphibious vehicle complete with a keg of beer onboard.

All in all it was a fabulous event. A big thank you and hug to Linda K. She was the real instigator for our club participation. Now, I believe we need to do a ride to either Disneyland or San Diego Seaworld . . . .

cheers, Victor
