Photo Gallery - S&M The Big Ride

March 27th, 2004.  Another great ride. We had about 18 riders at this very long but very fast ride through the mountains. The day was absolutely beautiful with temperatures tailor made for a swarm of Vespa riders. The riders gathered at the Sherman Oaks Vespa store and rode to the Santa Monica Vespa store led by Brian Kinney. Sam (Director of Operations for Vespa of California) brought coffee, pastries, juice and more to the event. It was quite exciting to see all the Vespas lined up ready to rock! Keith Klein and his daughter rode a GT200!

We took off down the California Incline to PCH. The traffic was average, but we stayed on the right lane and kept it at a reasonable speed ;-)

Our first stop was the Chevron station at Sunset and PCH where everyone gassed up and began the long trek to the Rock Store. Because we had to get back to the store early I led the group - at a fast pace. Thankfully, everyone was able to keep up without incident. At the Rock Store, we took some pics and proceeded up to Little Sycamore. One of our riders missed the turn off (unwittingly followed by Dimitry - who was driving the "chase" truck) but, saw me waiting just in time.

From there we crossed the mountains via Mulholland and eventually came to Deer Creek. At the top of Deer Creek I stopped everyone and asked each rider: "Are your brakes good?" Kinda important when you see how high we all were and just how steep the cliffs were. Everyone made it down ok and all enjoyed the spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean. From there we made a short hop to Neptune's Net for an afternoon meal. Before leaving the "Net" Brian held the giveaway of prizes. Helmets, clothing, goodies galore. Yeah, that's right. Brand new helmets!

So, since our time was so good. We headed out to Dietrich's coffee for drinks and nibbles. And then we headed back to the Santa Monica store for congratulatory head-butts and chest thumping.

cheers, Victor

p.s. if you have any pics of the event please send them to me for the site.
