Making fabric weights from exercise dumbells

Once in a while I get some great ideas that are worth sharing. This is a great one. I had a set of 10 pound hand held exercise weights. Each end of the dumbbell weighs 5 pounds. What makes these great are that they are very smooth because they are chromed, they are wide and at 5 pounds they hold down patterns and materials very well.

wt1.jpg (13795 bytes) Notice the flatness and larger diameter of the weight. It helps distribute the weight so as not to damage the fabric- yet it holds it down well.

The chromed weight (these are Bollinger weights by-the-way) are best because they won't stain the fabric or the patterns. They also slide very well.

wt2.jpg (13449 bytes) The opposite side of the weight shows where it unscrews from the other dumbbell. I use either side to hold down my materials.
wt3.jpg (10733 bytes) This image shows a typical arrangement of the weights on a manila pattern over a fabric. It allows me to rotary cut the fabric without getting in the way.
tab1.jpg (8147 bytes) Off-Topic: I have great table. It is covered with a self healing Barco mat which is white in color. The table top itself is metal so it is very flat and hard. Great for cutting.

But the height and angle of the table is controlled by electric motors. It really saves your back and neck when you can easily adjust the table for standing and sitting positions (the height and tilt buttons are shown here).
