Computer Hardware
I am buying a new computer. What's the story on Vista?
- Anonymous in San Diego, CA
He asked about an article he read regarding Vista. That Vista was an OS to be avoided at all costs.
From a technician's point of view, Vista is a terrible Operating System (OS). Problems on this OS can takes 3 to 4 times as long to diagnose and repair compared to WindowsXP. Sure, a tech will make more money working on Vista... but, please!
The word is that Microsoft is phasing out Vista and replacing it with Windows7. And they are doing it without any fanfare, quietly, and without a time table. It will be a gradual flow of computers with the new OS blending onto the scene.
I believe the driving force behind the demise of Vista is not the complaints of technicians like me, but rather the rise of competing OS's like Linux and possibly Android. I think Microsoft is forecasting tough competition and needs to focus their resources on that fact.
My advise is wait on your purchase if you can. If not then figure in the cost of buying a copy of WindowsXP and install it before you begin working with your computer.
