Motorcycles 05-23-01

I grew up riding and competing on one motorcycle or another. My father even built cycles for the movies way back in the 60s and 70s'.  There are lots of stories and adventures with local biker gangs like the Hell's Angels, Heathens and the Satan's Slaves. Today, I ride sportbikes. Ducati to be more specific. Here is a link to my Ducati website

You'll find in my articles on the web page: A personal review of the recent Long Beach Motorcycle show. It has photo links along with the article.

Fashion Design 05-23-01

Did you know that the apparel industry is the largest field of employment here in California? It really is. And it is not all sweatshops! That is media pandering and distortion. For more information on the fashion industry and the City of Los Angeles, please go to my article on the subject - The Heartbeat of Los Angeles.

In July, I attended the debut of Harley-Davidson's Apparel line in Los Angeles. Check out the review of the show. It was great. Also in July was the California Gift Show and its fashion show. An interesting concept in fashion shows.

For those of you in Southern California there is a wonderful resource called Treadle Art in Lomita. A great selection of books and videos on fashion and crafts as well as a good selection of new and used sewing machines and overlock machines. Their phone number is 1-310-534-5122.

Movies 2-9-99

I like movies. Theaters, videos, classics, blockbusters, foreign, et al. I especially like to collect - w i d e s c r e e n - movies. From Toy Story to Excalibur (Patrick Stewart's best role IMHO), from True Lies to A Little Princess, I enjoy them all.

For you Baby Boomers, I just bought a copy of Easy Rider in the widescreen edition (of course). I remember seeing this classic in the theater in '69. It brings back a lot of memories. Man, what a trip!

I am starting to collect the biker movies from the 60s. One of Jack Nicholson's earliest movies was Hell's Angels on Wheels. His performance was pretty good - but the movie was pure camp. It even had appearances by Northern California chapters of the real Hell's Angels and Sonny Barger! It is a classic film of that genre.

The Wild Angels is a suprisingly good 1966 movie staring Peter Fonda, Nancy Sinatra, Bruce Dern, Diane Ladd and the Venice chapter of the Hell's Angels. The assistant director was Peter Bogdanovich! and the director Roger Corman!

By the way, a bit of trivia, my father and I built many bikes for these movies and various local biker clubs like the Hell's Angels, Satin's Slaves and the Heathens.

Music 05-23-01

I like Country - Patty Loveless is one of my favorites (her homepage). She is such a beauty, and what a voice!. Another country favorite is Alison Krause. She is a violinist with a sweet, sweet voice. Check out this page on her.

Classic Rock Having grown up in the late 60s. I always go back to my roots; Hendrix, Beatles, Pretenders et al.

Heavy Metal - I am a Metallica convert. Creed, Machine Head, older NIN tracks. Just incredible stuff. Before I met my last girlfriend I could not listen to Metal. But it is some of the most beautiful music around.

Classical - The Great Soprano Edita Gruberova, another page of interest is the Opera page, Mozart and Vivaldi, Anne-Sophie Mutter is a knockout.

World Music - Didjerido music, violinist L. Subramaniam are favorites.

Antiquarian Books 10-13-98

I really enjoy looking at rare antiquarian books. In particular the engravings and prints of Gustave Dore (1832 - 1883). He began his professional career as an illustrator at the age of fifteen. And is one of the most famous of the engravers, artists, sculpturers of the 19th century. Click here if you want to see a sample of his extraordinary work as it is very inspirational. There are a number of images from a few of his books. I have seen some excellent 1st edition Dores and always looking for more.

Another book with incredible imagery is Krsna Art. A very large oversized book with paintings based on the themes from the ancient Srimad Bhagavatam.

Massage 3-20-98

A suprise to some of you who know me but, I am a massage therapist as well as a 3D artist. Having been certified as a Postural Integrator (in 1991) my therapeutic work has centered around deep tissue manipulation. But, I also offer Shiatsu and a general relaxation massage (Click here for more information on Oriental Medicine!). This month of February 1998, I have added CranioSacral Therapy to my modalities. To find out more about this great therapeutic modality go to the Upledger Institute's news page.
